Meeting the Housing Needs of all Residents
Below is a Map taken from the City of Galveston 2019-2023 Consolidatecd Plan (DRAFT). The red highlighted area shows the approximate location of the Williams- Borden Neighborhood. If you can zoom in, you will see that a significant percentage of residents are spending more than 30% of their household income on housing.
The Draft Plan contains statistical data supporting that Williams-Borden, like most of the city, has a diverse demographic contributing to the character and energy of the neighborhood. While Williams-Borden is not broken out specifically (it overlaps the statistical neighborhoods of Lasker Park and Kempner Park), the document provides valuable information that can help Williams-Borden residents evaluate needs and opportunities.
It is important to be aware of the resources available and communicate needs to the local representatives. At the city level, the Grants and Housing Department administers grant monies provided by Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Program.
Numerous opportunities exist for resident engagement in these processes.
