The Helmbrecht House - A Galveston Landmark
The Helmbrecht House
From Galveston Historic City Landmarks:
The Helmbrecht House possesses distinctive characteristics of 1920s architecture and is representative of the work of John F. Staub, a master designer. One of three Galveston homes designed by Staub, the smallest, and one which Staub himself called, "A tiny house - the simplest of houses - but I love it".
Primarily known for his work on the Bayou Bend estate and River Oaks in Houston, Staub designed this French manor-style home for cotton exporter William Helmbrecht in 1928. The house is typical of Staub's style of creating visual interest through careful selection of materials and details. The house cost $21,547 to build, and the surrounding fence dates from the 1880's.
