The Thomas H. Borden Home
Thomas H. Borden built a home on the southeast corner of 39th St and Avenue P. He was an industious farmer, inventor, newspaperman and Texas pioneer. Borden left Galveston in 1849 and returned in 1874. At that time the house was either demolished or renovated as the existing house is dated 1874. Borden died here in 1877 and the house has had many owners and many renovations since that time. Like many larger homes in Williams-Borden the house was converted to a duplex, but in the 1990's it was restored to a single family home and some unsympathetic additions were removed. The current owners, who purchased the home in 2009, have discovered evidence to date some of the construction; including cypress beams, mortise and tenon joints, and brick piers.
